Our trip to the Cape Winelands was an eye-opener, especially considering the aspects of our industry. We experienced excellent food, service and wine and learnt that there is a distinct difference between average and exquisite food - Reuben’s left everyone gasping for more! In doing so we grasped the standards and qualities we want to emulate in our very own hotels and restaurants one day.

Over the 4 days we visited a total of 7 wine farms, some of which included Douglas Green Bellingham and KWV. Unfortunately we did not get the opportunity to taste their 1920 Muscadal which only gets bottled for a select few like Nelson Mandela. We did however tour their vineyards and explore their bottling plants, cellars and fermentation rooms.

In all we tasted over 60 different wines, some of which were the finest of their collections. We had excellent guides who explained the wine making process in the greatest of detail which made it that much more interesting.

To add to all the exotic flavours already lingering in our mouths, the chocolate tasting just topped it off. We also had some delicious cheeses to go with the Fairview wines.

Not only did we have a fantastic educational experience but we also had the time to enjoy Cape Town and the company we were in. A day of leisure in the city and lunch at Camps Bay led to a night out on the town before our last day.
